The San Francisco Airport Smoking Area is restricted to designated outdoor areas because smoking is not permitted within any of the terminals at San Francisco International Airport (SFO). In accordance with California law, passengers who want to smoke must leave the terminal building and use the designated Airport Smoking Area, which is at least 20 feet away from windows and entrances. Ashtrays are included in these spaces for convenience. In order to use an airport smoking area, travelers who have a layover should be advised that they must re-clear TSA security.
