Welcome to Newport State Park
Newport State Park, northeast of Ellison Bay, is Wisconsin's only formally-designated wilderness park. With 2,373 acres and 11 miles of Lake Michigan shoreline, the park offers quiet alternatives to bustling Door County. Explore 30 miles of hiking trails with hike-in campsites. There are evergreen and hardwood forests, wetlands and upland meadows.

Camping and reservations
Newport State Park offers backpack camping for visitors. All campsites are hike-in and supplies must be carried into and out of campsites.

Reservations
Camping reservations for outdoor campsites can be made online or by calling 888-947-2757.

Firewood
Firewood can be purchased from local vendors and at the park in season.

Backpack campsites
Newport has 16 backpack (hike-in) campsites, 13 of which can be reserved.

Hiking
Newport has over 30 miles of trails, all of them open for hiking.

Biking
About 17 miles of trail are open to off-road bicycles.

Picnic areas
There is a picnic area on Newport Bay by parking lot #3 and the reservable shelter.

Boating, canoeing and kayaking
There is not a boat launch at the park. Users of small watercraft or floatation devices should be aware of the wind conditions on Lake Michigan. Strong west winds can blow watercraft away from the shoreline. Parents, watch your children at all times. Rubber rafts and other boats require personal floatation devices.

Fishing
Fishing is available in Lake Michigan and Europe Lake in the northern part of the park. Fishing licenses apply.

Hunting and trapping
Hunting and trapping are allowed in the open areas of the park during the Wisconsin state parks hunting and trapping time frame. Trapping is not permitted in closed areas as noted on the park hunting map or within 100 yards of any designated use area, including trails. Certain trap types are restricted on state park properties.

Winter activities
Over 26 miles of trail are open for cross-country skiing. There are 12 miles of groomed and tracked trail for classical skiing and two miles are groomed for skate skiing. About five miles of trail are open for snowshoeing.
