Welcome to New Glarus Woods State Park
New Glarus Woods is a 435-acre state park offering camping, hiking, picnicking and snowshoeing. The park also offers direct access to The Sugar River State Trail, a 24-mile linear trail surfaced with compressed limestone screenings, for bicycling, hiking, snowmobiling and, in some areas, hunting.

Firewood is available for sale from park staff and friends group members.

Campground
New Glarus Woods has small, primitive campgrounds that provide 18 drive-in campsites for tent, pop-up and small (RV) recreational vehicle camping as well as 14 "walk-to" sites for tent camping. The "walk to" sites are located 50 to 1,000 feet from a parking lot along a paved trail. Hand carts are available to help transfer your camping equipment to the "walk-to" campsites. There are also six group tent sites available for groups of up to 20 persons. The park has both wooded and meadow group sites. Only Sites #52 and the ADA accessible site #53 permit up to two wheeled campers. This campground does not have an RV dump or fill station. Rest rooms accessible to people with disabilities are available in the group camping area. There is an accessible family campsite in the Lead Circle campground, an accessible group campsite in the group camp area and accessible picnic tables in the park as well.

Hiking
New Glarus Woods offers eight miles of hiking trails, including 5.5 miles of self-guided nature trails. These trails include outdoor interpretive panels or numbered trail markers that corresponds with a guide book (available at the entrance station).

Biking
Bicycles are permitted on all the paved surfaces within the park and campgrounds. Bicycles are not permitted on the hiking trails. The Sugar River Trail Spur passes through the walk-to campground and connects to the 24-mile Sugar River State Trail.

Picnic areas and playgrounds
New Glarus Woods provides one large picnic area with cooking grills and picnic tables. In the picnic area there is a large playground, open air picnic shelter with lights and electricity, vault toilet rest rooms and drinking fountains. A small picnic area with grills and tables is next to the walk-to campsites.

Hunting and trapping
Hunting and trapping are allowed in the open areas of the park during the Wisconsin state parks hunting and trapping time frame. Trapping is not permitted in closed areas as noted on the park hunting map or within 100 yards of any designated use area, including trails. Certain trap types are restricted on state park properties.

Winter activities
Cross-country skiing is permitted on all trails, but the trails are ungroomed. Snowshoeing and winter hiking are allowed on all trails. Pets are welcome but must be leashed at all times.
