Welcome to Watoga State Park
Watoga State Park is located in the mountains of Pocahontas County just 14 miles south of Marlinton, West Virginia. The park consists of 10,100 acres filled with a multitude of recreational activities including hiking, swimming, fishing and boating. Vacation cabins are open year-round.  Watoga Lake is known for excellent fishing opportunities and included in the Division of Natural Resources stocking program. Watoga visitors that bike and hike take advantage of the access to the Greenbrier River Trail in addition to the miles of hiking trails located on the state park.  A multipurpose building, CCC museum and observation tower are a few of the unique features you’ll find at Watoga State Park. Beginning January 1, 2018, Watoga will begin taking group reservations for cabin rentals of three or more cabins for up to two years in advance from the first date of the month. Group reservations for three or more cabins assists reunions and larger families to plan for travel in advance.  Currently cabins may be reserved for up to one year in advance.

CABINS
Of the 34 cabins Watoga has to offer, ten are modern (8-four person modern and two-eight person modern) and 24 are standard cabins from two to six persons. Two of these cabins meet ADA accessibility guidelines. The ten modern cabins offer air conditioning. Additional cots are available in cabins for a nominal fee. The modern cabins are frame construction, featuring wood paneled walls, forced air furnace and stone fireplace. The quaint standard cabins are of log and stone construction with natural stone fireplaces. All cabins are equipped with electric lighting , modern kitchen appliances and bathrooms with showers. Completely equipped for housekeeping, the cabins feature cooking utensils, dishes, flatware, bed linens and towels. All CCC era log cabins at Watoga only have a fireplace for heat. There is a small electric baseboard heater in the bathroom. For reservations toward the end of October, Watoga emphasizes that the standard cabins are only heated by a wood burning fireplace. Watoga's modern cabins are open year-round, while the standard cabins open the last week-end in April and close the fourth Monday in October.

CAMPING
Watoga has two separate campgrounds: Beaver Creek Campground and Riverside Campground. Beaver Creek Campground is a 38-unit facility located eight miles south of Huntersville, near the park's north entrance. Beaver Creek offers 12 sites with electricity. The campsites at Beaver Creek Campground are all first-come, first-serve. Riverside Campground offers 50 sites along the picturesque Greenbrier River near the western entrance of Watoga State Park. There are three types of sites at Riverside Campground: Preferred sites all with electric, electric sites, and no-electric sites. The Riverside area features electric hook-ups at 38 of the 50 sites. Reservations are taken for all sites at Riverside during the summer months. Camping is available from April 1st through the end of deer rifle season in early December. Both campgrounds provide for tent and trailer camping. Each site includes picnic tables and grills with a central bathhouse with toilet facilities, hot showers, coin operated laundry, and dishwashing stations that have double bowl sinks with hot and cold water.

GAME COURT AND RECREATION BUILDING
Located near the swimming pool, this area features tennis, basketball, shuffleboard, croquet, badminton, volleyball, horseshoes and ping pong, all at a nominal fee. Playground equipment is also provided here as well as in both campground areas.

SWIMMING
The outdoor swimming pool with solar heating at Watoga is open on weekends, Saturday and Sunday, beginning Memorial Day Saturday until Labor Day weekend. The pool will open mid-week from June 11 through August 12, except for Monday and Tuesday with hours of operation from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Overnight cabin rental fees include the use of the swimming pool. There is a minimal fee of $3.00 for swimmers 12 and over and $2.00 for individuals under 12 years of age.

NATURALIST PROGRAM
A seasonal naturalist plans and conducts activities to help familiarize guests with the flora and fauna the park. This program consists of slide shows, hikes, athletic events, campfires and other activities to acquaint guests not only with Watoga, but other visitors as well. Naturalist programs are offered during the summer season.

FISHING
Watoga Lake is an 11 acre man-made lake stocked with largemouth bass, channel catfish, bluegill and trout. Trout stocking begins in January each year and ends Memorial Day, but trout can be caught all summer and into the fall in the deeper, colder water. Personal boats are permitted on Watoga Lake, but motors are restricted to electric, trolling motors only. Between Memorial Day weekend and Labor day the park rents paddle boats, row boats, canoes and kayaks for a nominal fee.

BOATING
Paddle or row boat rentals are available at Watoga's 11 acre lake. Relax on a paddle boat or do some fishing.

MISCELLANEOUS RECREATION
A variety of other activities are available including fishing on the nearbyGreenbrier River or hiking on the Greenbrier River Trail. Hunting opportunities abound at nearby state and national forests.
