Ray and Kathy Coker, Pioneer Campground’s new owners invite you to discover what makes Pioneer Campground Sullivan County’s quality family campground. Come enjoy the refreshing mountain breezes while staying in large wooded campsites, rustic cabins or furnished cottages. There are planned activities scheduled for many weekends throughout the camping season. A variety of recreational facilities are also available to make your stay as active or relaxing as you desire. The campground is open from early April through early December.
Pioneer Campground is situated on 80 acres atop Sonestown Mountain at an elevation of 2000 ft in beautiful Sullivan County . . . a very special place the modern world has bypassed. Here, you can step back in time and relax at a slower pace. There is an unspoiled mountain environment, abundant wildlife, quaint villages, covered bridges, and excellent restaurants to discover. Once you experience Sullivan County and Pioneer Campground, it will become habit forming.

Campground Clean up – Help us with various clean-up chores around the campground for four (4) hours Saturday morning and stay for free Saturday night, plus free lunch for all volunteers! Chores may include…Highway Cleanup, Hiking Trail Maintenance, Repainting Playground Equipment, Flower Bed Cleaning and Mulching and other fun activities. It's been a long winter, come on out and meet some old friends and make some new ones while giving those muscles and joints a much needed workout.

Kentucky Derby Gala – The steeds are in the starting gate, the wagers are in and the race is about to begin for the 139th "Run For the Roses"! Come watch the race in our Activity Center on our new large screen TV. Bring snacks and beverages and don't forget to dress for this occasion. Gentlemen, wear your finest Derby attire and don't allow the ladies in their fancy "Derby Hats" to outshine you. Photos will be taken with your permission for our wall of shame.

Mother’s Day – Moms, it’s your special day!!! We will have a gift of unspeakable value waiting for you at check in. To continue our celebration of your day…how about allowing your kids to paint you? No we don't mean with body paint but a painting OF you!!! Your children will have a chance to paint a portrait of you while you pose for them. We provide the art supplies, you be the model and watch your kids create a masterpiece. There may be a Rembrandt in your family or you may be the new Mona Lisa, Lisa May, Janie Sue, Mary Bell, Alice Elizabeth...or someone else famous.
Bring that stuff you have been looking at over the winter and don't need for our “GROJ” (Get Rid of Junk) sale. Bring unwanted treasures that other campers will not be able to resist, set up a table at your campsite and sell, sell, sell. You are also allowed to buy, buy, buy. Shelby Napoli from Stolen Time will be here on Saturday with soy candles from the Swan Creek Candle Company. Her past visits have been a huge success. Count on her showing the newest in candles and their special scents. Who can resist.
We will have bingo Saturday night but need a minimum of 15 players for a game, sign up in the office by 3:00PM Saturday.

Salute to our Armed Forces – Calling all active and retired military campers. To honor your service to our country, we are extending a 20% discount to you for this weekend (no other discounts apply). Join us Saturday for a Flag Raising Ceremony. And, 1SG Donald L. Cohick, Jr. (Ret.), Accredited Veterans Service Officer will present a special program for Veterans covering: veteran’s healthcare, the veteran’s Healthcare System, disability and widow’s pensions, and veterans benefits to pay for long-term care & how to protect your home and assets. Don is the former Director Veterans Affairs for Lycoming County; Past President Pennsylvania State Association of County Directors of Veterans Affairs; Past President- Pennsylvania War Council; and, Past member Pennsylvania Veterans Commission. This program is also open to the public.

Memorial Day – Join us for the unofficial beginning of the summer camping season! Don't forget your swim suits and/or trunks...the pool opens on Saturday (weather permitting); Of course the Fire Truck and Hay wagon are on the schedule for rides through the campground. And, don’t forget your bicycle for our decorated bike parade through the campground. Softball, basketball and volleyball equipment will be available for your enjoyment, grab your fellow campers and organize your own games! Once again we will be hosting the Pioneer Speedway Challenge Matchbox Car Races. This is always a fun way to spend the afternoon competing with your fellow campers (bring your own car) a small supply are available for purchase in the store. Heat races Saturday, final races Sunday. We round out the weekend's activities with a DJ poolside Saturday night and Sunday night bingo.

Quilter’s Extravaganza – Calling all quilters. Here’s a chance to show off your handiwork and commune with like-minded campers. Bring squares of your favorite fabric or photo copies of your favorite quilt pattern for our quilting exchange. Bring a quilt for our quilt display.
Local Events: Sullivan County Relay for Life at the Sullivan County Fairgrounds, Forksville. $5.00 from every reservation for camping between May 28 and June 2 will be donated to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life event. (6/1– 6/2)

"Midnight" Madness – Shop while wearing your PJ's. Last year's event was so popular we have to do it again. Saturday night, the store will re-open at 10:00pm…come to the campground store wearing PJ's and get discounts on certain merchandise. The more outrageous the PJ's the bigger the discount. If any men arrive wearing their spouses PJ's plus hair curlers, plus painted toe nails, plus face skin cream they get the biggest discount available plus a photo on our "wall of shame". Shopping hours are from 10:00 pm - 11:30 pm Saturday night. Don't miss this sale. It’s sure to be embarrassing for some. Browsers are welcome.

Father’s Day – Are there prospective builders in your family? Come and participate in our “Contractor’s Challenge”, where you can create a unique masterpiece and have fun at the same time! We have assembled identical building kits, with a variety of common stuff, which can be purchased for a small fee. You will have from the time you arrive at the campground until Saturday at 5:00pm to complete your project which will then be judged for the "Contractors Build-off Trophy". All building/fabrication takes place at your campsite. This is a challenge the whole family can enjoy. No tools or a minimal amount of tools will be needed. Your inner creativity will be your most valuable tool! We will end our Father’s Day festivities with a Spaghetti dinner Saturday night ($$$).

Great American Campout – Calling all families...come on out and celebrate the great outdoors at Pioneer Campground! Saturday June 22nd has been designated at the Great American Campout Day 2013. This is a chance to take a hike in the woods, cook hotdogs over an open fire, sit around a campfire and tell ghost stories. Rumor has it that Smokey Bear may make an appearance at the campground. We’ll have a communal bonfire Saturday night; bring your pie makers or hot dog cookers or marshmallows to roast over the fire. Tell your Big Brothers Big Sisters friends we are partnering with the BBBS Organization to get kids camping this weekend who may have never had an opportunity to enjoy this kind of experience.

Wine Tasting – Pioneer Campground brings the Endless Mountains Wine Trail to you!!! Join us for our wine tasting weekend; take advantage of the chance to sample wines from one of our local wineries without having to leave the campground. It's All About Fish – Who has the fastest racing minnow? Who has the most accurate casting skills? Who has the biggest fish tale? Who enjoys a Fish Fry? Come enjoy the Minnow races, we supply the minnows and the race track. There will be casting challenges for the older kids and adults plus kiddie pool fishing for the little ones. Bring a photo of yourself with the largest or smallest fish you ever caught and see if your photo is chosen as "Angler of the day". Bring your own rods and reels for the casting challenges. We will supply fishing rods for the kiddie pool fishing only.
On Saturday afternoon we will all enjoy a Fish Fry with all the fixins. ($$$)

Chocolate Lovers Celebration – Calling all chocoholics… come and enjoy a deliciously decadent weekend at the campground where chocolate related activities abound. There will be lots of ooey, gooey chocolate to sink your teeth into. What could be more fun than a flashlight candy bar hunt? Start thinking about that desert you'll bring for our Death by Chocolate Party and plan on staying to play candy bar bingo. Don’t forget the M&M guessing game with the winner walking away with a great chocolate prize.

Best Chef Contest – Is your secretly guarded family recipe for Chicken or Ribs or Soup the BEST, well bring it on!! Now is the time to showcase your culinary talents and amaze your fellow campers. Cook something from any category and enter it in our judged competition. A handpicked selection of judges will be on hand to choose the best of the best. Cook as little or as much as you wish but remember the judges need ample samples to crown a winner. Cook it any way you like, just cook it in the campground. Grilled, brazed, broiled, simmered, BBQ'd, dry rub'd, sweet sauce, thick sauce, no sauce, hot soup, cold soup...just get busy. Judging will take place Saturday at 6:00pm.

Calling All Motorcycles – It’s time to show off your driving skills during the motorcycle slow drags, bite the dog contest and other popular motorcycle games. Bring your own motorcycle and show off your equipment and your gamesmanship. This weekend is open to all types of motorcycles. The kids will enjoy NASCAR style races. They race a carlike thingamabob which we provide and parents become their pit crew changing tires, refueling them and steering them to a hopeful win.

Labor Day Celebration – Celebrate the unofficial end of summer at the Pioneer Campground Carnival. Try your luck at various carnival games set up in the campground. We're not sure exactly which games will make the cut, but they could include games like ring toss, popping balloons, coin toss, and many others that we haven't even thought about. Of course night time activities will include a DJ and a rousing game of Bingo. Softball and volleyball equipment will be available if you want to organize a game.

Chili Cook-off – Back by popular demand this event continues to be one of the more entertaining themed weekends we offer. Who knew so many different types of chili could be prepared. With beans, without beans, pork, beef, venison, road kill (??), veggie, chicken. Spicy, not spicy, thick, not thick, with corn, with different kinds of beans...it doesn't matter. Our campers prepare their best chili; the entire campground judges each one and then we announce the results. There are two categories…cooked indoors or cooked outdoors. Either way you must cook the chili while you are in the campground.

Bring candy if you want to participate. Join us for a fun scarecrow building activity; bring old clothes and we’ll provide the stuffing. Take part in the night time hay ride and be the first to experience the Pioneer Campground haunted house.

We'll cap off our weekend with a night time haunted hayride and trip through the Pioneer Campground Chamber of Horrors!
