Welcome to Okontoe Campground
Nestled in one hundred acres of beautifully wooded land, 27 miles up the historic Gunflint Trail. The family owned campground is bordered on both sides by the small, non-motorized lakes, Bow and Quiver. The lakes have small-mouth, walleye, northern, and panfish, hence the Chippewa name of Okontoe, or "waters of many fish". A shallow creek runs through the middle of the campground to join the lakes. Nearly all of the 32 campsites are lake-side or lake-view and privately spaced. Each site is furnished with a picnic table and fire grate. We welcome your pets, and ask that in consideration of other campers, they be cleaned up after and kept on a leash.

Established in 1978, the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW) has changed little since the glaciers melted. With over 1,500 miles of canoe routes, nearly 2,200 designated campsites, and more than 1,000 lakes and streams waiting, the BWCAW draws thousands of visitors each year.
Unlike most areas, reservations are not needed for campsites within the Boundary Waters. Instead, you are only required an overnight entry permit (also known as a quota permit). All members of the permit group must camp together, and no more than nine people and three watercraft are allowed.
You may camp only at Forest Service designated campsites that have steel fire grates and wilderness latrines.
