Middle Ridge Campground
Middle Ridge Campground is located in Romney, the oldest town in West Virginia, in the fertile valley of the South Branch of the Potomac River. The natural beauty has played a large role in the developing opportunities in Romney. The "Trough," is where the South Branch River is squeezed into a narrow canyon and is one of the best locations for spotting bald eagles. You can take a ride on the Potomac Eagle, a scenic railroad that runs through the Trough so you can view the majestic scenery. Enjoy Short Mountain Wildlife Preserve with over 15 miles of marked hiking trails on over 8,000 acres of prime woodlands for hunting and fishing. Nathaniel Mountain offers another 8,700 acres. Canoe and tubing in two locations, Romney and Fort Edwards. For you history buffs, Romney is the home to what is believed to be the first Confederate Memorial in the United States, dedicated by the citizens on September 28, 1867. Romney is said to have changed hands 56 times during the Civil War.
