Welcome to Lake Hope State Park
Located in southeastern Ohio, the 2,983-acre Lake Hope State Park is a natural paradise. The entire park lies with the 28,614-acre Zaleski State Forest in the valley of Big Sandy Run. It is a rugged, heavily forested region traversed by steep gorges and narrow ridges with remnants of abandoned mining and iron producing industries. This eye-catching scenery offers many opportunities for photographers, hikers and historians to enjoy. in the valley of Big Sandy Run. Laurel Lodge
Groups may reserve Laurel Lodge, a two-level rustic lodge with a beautiful stone fireplace

Commercial sized kitchen with all basic cooking requirements provided

Boating
The 120-acre lake allows boats with electric motors only and can be accessed by one launch ramp. Canoes, kayaks, rowboats and paddle boards are available for rent.

Dining
The Lake Hope Lodge offers made from scratch food using Ohio products with a strong emphasis on real pit barbeque, which is smoked in their all wood fire traditional pit using pure hickory. All of the smoked meats and sides are available by the pound to take home. Ask about Campside Cuisine packages. The dining lodge is open to overnight guests and day visitors alike.

Fishing
Anglers will find good catches of bluegill, catfish, crappie and largemouth bass at Lake Hope. A valid Ohio fishing license is required.

Hunting
Hunting is permitted in the adjacent Zaleski State Forest. A valid Ohio hunting license is required.

Picnicking
Nine picnic areas with tables and grills are located at many secluded and scenic areas around the park. A shelterhouse is available for reservation online or by calling (866) 644-6727.

Swimming
A 600-foot swimming beach is located near the dam. Facilities include a shower house with deck, restrooms, and concessions. Swimming is permitted during daylight hours only. Swim at your own risk. Pets are NOT permitted on swimming beaches.

Trails
Seven hiking trails traverse the park. A 29-mile backpack trail with primitive campsites is available in the adjacent state forest; backpackers must register upon arrival. Place to ride from the Athens Bicycle Club.

Hope Furnace Trail - 3.2 Miles - Moderate
Eight biking trails also cross the park. Steep hills and ravines offer challenges suited to intermediate and advanced cyclists. Lake Hope's 23-mile singletrack bike trail was chosen as Ohio's top mountain bike trail by readers of "Mountain Bike Magazine." The wooded singletrack, which is open to mountain bikes, offers plenty of bike riding options.

Forty-five miles of bridle trail in the state forest are available for riders with their own mounts.

Winter Recreation
Under the proper winter conditions, park guests can enjoy sledding, cross-country skiing, ice skating, and ice fishing.
