Welcome to Fort Ridgely State Park
Tour Historic Fort Ridgely and wander through the ruins of this once thriving outpost. Learn about the U.S.-Dakota War of 1862, a major event in Minnesota's early history. Visit the museum and the cemetery to learn more. For recreation, this park offers plenty. In the summer, hike or ride the trails on horseback, fish the stocked pond or trout stream, camp (drive-in and walk-in sites are available), or stay overnight in the renovated farmhouse. In the winter, ski, snowmobile, or stay overnight at the chalet.

Walk-in Sites

These secluded sites are located about 1,000 feet from parking area. Drinking water is available at the sites. This area is designated as carry-in, carry-out only. No garbage receptacles provided.

Horse Camp
14 Sites (13 electric sites)
All sites are available May 1 through MEA weekend.

Group Camp
1 Site - Accommodates up to 40 people
Well-shaded site. Water, fire rings, and picnic tables available. Vault toilets only. No electricity. Appropriate for tents and small pop-up trailers. No RVs or large trailers.

Picnic Area
2 Picnic Areas
This site includes a shelter and playground equipment, sandbox, horseshoes, and amphitheater.

Picnic Shelter
Open Shelter and Enclosed Shelter
Located in the upper picnic area, this shelter was built in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps and includes a fireplace, electricity, picnic tables, and running water. Flush toilets and wheelchair accessible vault toilets are available. It can accommodate up to 60 people and is handicapped accessible. Please reserve by calling the park.

Playground equipment includes swings and a sandbox.

Historic Amphitheater
The historic amphitheater was built in 1927 and features a stone stage and backdrop, electricity and bench seating for 150. It is located near the upper picnic shelter and the two facilities are rented out together. The stage and benches are shaded by large oak trees. Parking, flush toilets and drinking water are located a short walk away. The amphitheater is available to rent for weddings, concerts, religious services, speaking events or theatrical productions. Call the park to reserve: 507-426-7840.

Winter: Sliding Hill
3 sliding areas
Three areas are available for sliding, using plastic sleds or inner tubes. Runner sleds and toboggans are not allowed.

Stop here for park permit and information on the park and area. Firewood and ice are available from the office as well as rental equipment.

Visitor Center
Fort Ridgely Historic Site
The Visitor Center and Historic Site is staffed weekends, Memorial Day Weekend through MEA weekend.

Interpretive Exhibit
Located in Visitor Center
Exhibit admission is $6 for adults 18-64 years of age, $5 for seniors and college students, $4 for children aged 6 to 17, and free for children under 5 years old.

Gift items are available at both locations during hours of operation.
