Welcome to Elk Neck State Park
Elk Neck State Park is a year-round, travel destination. It allows you to explore the landscapes and waters of the upper Chesapeake Bay. The park has 2,188 acres and boasts of sandy beaches, marshlands, and heavily wooded bluffs that overlook the North East River, Elk River and the Chesapeake Bay. As a result, there are several journeys you can take while in the park. One journey takes you on a hike out to Turkey Point Lighthouse, a key landmark of the park. Built in 1833, this historic lighthouse sits on top of a 100-foot bluff that overlooks the Chesapeake Bay. This lighthouse has been part of Chesapeake Bay history for generations. It safeguarded people who lived, worked and traveled here for nearly 175 years. Many amazing tales unfolded under this watchful beacon: stories of heroism, daunting challenges, and even tragedy. The lighthouse is open to visitors on weekends from April through November. Between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., lighthouse volunteers let visitors climb up to the top of the 35-foot beacon. They also tell stories about the lighthouse's history.
