The Preserve Golf Course
The 18-hole award-winning golf course is nestled in 240 acres of rolling prairie and designed to provide a challenge for any golfer, no matter their experience level. Special features include golf cars with GPS technology, environmentally friendly design and management, a full-time director of golf available for lessons, and a golf and snack shop in the club house. Activity Center and Naturalist Staff
Honey Creek Resort features a full calendar of nature-based programs and activities led by a naturalist team. Families or groups can book ahead, or join any of the ongoing activities offered at the resort. From campfire storytelling to fishing and kayaking clinics, numerous activities are available for all ages and groups. The Activity Center is an environmentally designed building with solar heating, recycled materials, a wind turbine and other eco-friendly technologies.

Lake Activities (boating, fishing)
Rathbun lake is very popular with sail boaters, power boaters, water skiers and anglers. Crappie, walleye and channel catfish are available to challenge anglers. The park has excellent boat launching ramps and conveniently located fish cleaning facilities. Visitors to Honey Creek Resort State Park return often to enjoy the beautiful setting of rolling, timbered hills against a background of beautiful Lake Rathbun, Iowa's second-largest lake. In 1954, Congress authorized the construction of Rathbun Lake because the Chariton River Valley in south-central Iowa was susceptible to flood and drought problems. The dam was completed in 1969 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Rathbun Lake provides flood protection for 149,300 acres of land along the Chariton River. The Corps manages 55 square miles of land and water at Rathbun Lake. Honey Creek Resort is a part of the Rathbun Lake recreation complex consisting of 11,000 acres with eight parks, 155 miles of shoreline, two marinas and 21,000 acres of public land. In addition to Honey Creek Resort State Park, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources manages the original Honey Creek State Park just a few miles from the resort, and the Rathbun Fish Hatchery and Fisheries Research Facility located below the dam.
