Welcome to Mahlon Dickerson Reservation
The largest park of the Morris County Park System, encompasses 3,200 acres of near wilderness and recreational areas, with more than 20 miles of multi-use trails. One of the reservation's outstanding features is Headley Overlook, one of the highest points in the park system. Pine Swamp trail is the highest point in the county at 1,395 feet. The reservation has four activity areas, beginning with two options for overnight stays. The first is a camping area with tent sites and Adirondack shelters, complete with platforms, picnic tables and fire rings. In addition a trailer area with paved sites has electric and seasonal water hook-ups, picnic tables and charcoal grills. Visitors to the Saffin Pond area have access to hiking, biking and equestrian trails as well as fishing, ice skating and picnicking. Finally, the general picnic area has both group and family sites with tables and charcoal grills, a pavilion, ball field, exercise area and horseshoe pit. Park features include, athletic fields, bike trails (unpaved), equestrian trails, fitness stations, lake, picnic areas (non-reservable), picnic areas (reservable), picnic shelter (reservable), play areas, trails, pets welcome - leashed only, restrooms. Things to do include, biking, camping – platform, camping – tent, camping – trailer, commercial filming, commercial photography, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, ice skating, picnicking, snowshoeing, Tented events for wedding ceremonies, wedding photography, cross-country skiing. Handicapped accessible. Call ahead for required permits and advanced scheduling.
