Welcome to Frank Jackson State Park
This 2,050 acre park located near Opp, Alabama is a hot spot for anglers thanks to its main attraction, the 1,000-acre Lake Jackson. In addition to outstanding fishing, the park also features picnic areas, lakefront RV camping with cable TV hookups, a modern bathhouse, a boardwalk leading to an island in the lake, and more than three miles of walking trails. Fishing is the main attraction at the park and Lake Frank Jackson is specially stocked and managed for prime freshwater fishing. Bass, bream, crappie and catfish are abundant. Boat launch ramps and a grassy beach provide water access for boaters, paddlers and swimmers. A handicap-accessible fishing platform is located at the northwest end of the dam and is accessible from Highway 42. October through November, the park hosts another one of its main attractions, Scarecrows in the Park. During this annual event, the walking trails are lined with decorative scarecrows made by local individuals, businesses, organizations and school groups. A local volunteer group, the Trail Masters, was instrumental in the construction of the trails and organizes the event. A pedestrian bridge spanning a section of Lake Frank Jackson eases the trip between the playground and campground areas; as well as serves as a wetland wildlife viewing area. Various birds, fish and other animals are regular sights from the bridge. The peaceful sounds of the lake lapping through the aquatic vegetation highlight a quality of life that state parks offer. Other facilities at Frank Jackson include 32 RV campsites with Wi-Fi and cable service. Three of these sites are handicap accessible. You may also tent camp in the RV sites. A new gazebo and garden area, also a Trail Masters project, has been completed and is available for weddings, family reunions or other gatherings. For information on how to reserve the gazebo call (334) 493-6988.
